Megan & Andrew's Wedding Cake

My friends, Megan and Andrew recently got married and asked me to do their wedding cake. I was both honored and thrilled to make it for them!

I've always admired how they are such a fun, and happy couple together - so when they asked me to do their cake, I was more than excited!

Melissa's 15!

Hello everyone! Today's post brings you a little history of my sister Melissa's birthday cakes. Her birthday is May 6th, and together she and I always come up with some pretty cute cakes for her birthdays so I thought it would be neat to go back and look at what I've done for her on her past 3 brithdays and share with you all.

Two years ago she turned 13, and celebrated her birthday with a bright pink Ipod cake. It was such a fun and easy cake to do!! Here is a picture of her with it.... :)

The following year she turned 14 and wanted a frog birthday cake, she had seen a picture of one somewhere and had completely falling in love with it. I thought it was so random and adorable!! I love how this little flirty frog cake turned out, the little crown added a nice touch! We thought.

And this year she turned 15 years old! Such a milestone for her, she got her first cell phone and her Driving Permit. I can't hardly believe she's old enough to drive, a car, on the actual road. Crazy how time is flying by!! We celebrated her birthday with cupcakes and also I did my first topsy-turvy cake for her. It turned out really good, I think that next time I do one it will be a little easier because I'll actually know a little more about what I'm doing. This time it was just somewhat guessing and just doing. The finished result was really cute and everyone seemed to love it, especially the birthday girl! :)

I could decorate cupcakes every week and not get tired of them! They always, always are fun to make. And these that I made for my sister, Kara's birthday, were no exception. She and I both must have had a bad case of "spring fever" for these were so spring time looking. I loved that. I'm so anxious and excited for spring to get here this year!! Can't wait for that warm weather.

February's Favorite.

I just realized that today is March 3rd and I have not posted February's Favorite Cake Of The Month. Please forgive me!! I will do better. I will. I have several things in mind for March, i'm excited to see what this month will bring. Choosing my favorite cake was hard, I liked everything that I did. Brent's hat cake was cute, there was several things I wished that I had done differently ... I forgot to put the button on top of the cake, and I forgot to make little marks to look like fabric stiches. I've said this before and I'll say it again. With every cake I decorate, I still feel like I learn something new each time. That is one thing that I love so much about it.
I think everyone enjoyed the Valentine's Day Cookies... I loved doing them because my sisters all helped, they were sitting around the table pitching in little ideas for messages, which was fun! Colton's brother Dallas tried to eat the "hottie cookie" thinking I had made it for him. Haha!
But my favorite of the month goes to Colton's Valentine's Day Cake, (you can all go and gag now!) The reason I chose that cake was because it had some sentimental value to it, whenever we were younger, much younger, we were boyfriend & girlfriend with each other, for Valentine's Day I made him a strawberry cake with strawberry icing and decorated it up for him. And he loved it, so I decided to surprise him with another one of those cakes this year for Valentine's Day, I did change it up some, I left off the strawberry icing and choose cream cheese because I didn't want the cake to be pink. He was pretty surprised and excited about it! I'm really glad I did for him. He loved it!

Panthers Hat Cake

I made this cake over the weekend for my brother, Brent's birthday. He is the oldest one of us 10 kids and as you may have guessed a huge panthers fan!! This was my first attempt at making a "hat cake" I'm really glad I did it because, I felt like I really learned alot from it. The panther was free handed using royal icing and the stripes are out of fondant, the bill is formed out of cardboard and then covered with royal icing and fondant stripes. This cake was fun to make, and a great challenge!

Valentine's Day

I hope you all had a Happy Valentine's Day this year! Colton and I had a great one!! Here are some cookies I made for his family and mine, and also a cake that I made for him. I was just thinking how this might be the first time I've ever posted cookies on my blog before. Although I love to decorate them, it seems they are something, I rarely do. I loved how these turned out.

And here is Colton's cake…. it’s iced with Cream-cheese Icing and the hearts are cut out of fondant. I used an edible writing pen to write the messages on with.

My Monthly Challenge

Even though, it’s January 26th. It’s not too late in the month to make a New Years Resolution, is it? Let’s rewind for a second. Hello everyone! You may have wondered where I drifted off too and why I’ve not posted any cakes lately. Or you may not have noticed. But either way! I’ve been taking a breather from cake decorating the past little while. The last cake I had done was the haunted house cake, which topped over as I was pulling into my boyfriends driveway to take it to his family. I don’t know if that was the last straw or what. But I was just getting so frustrated with my cakes. I felt like I needed a break, so I took one. And then my sister, Keisha’s birthday rolled around on January 8th and she wanted a zebra printed cake with a purple bow. And I started getting nervous, like really, really nervous. I was afraid and scared I wasn’t going to be able to do a good job on the cake. I was afraid the black icing was going to bleed into the white icing. I was afraid it was going to look all stripy (not sure if this is even a word?) but I didn’t want it to look like stripes. I wanted it to look z-e-b-r-a printed. So I started out with her cake, and I almost had a minor fit when I got started baking the cake and realized we didn’t have any sugar. But thanks to my lovely Mom who was just 5 mins. from the grocery store we got the sugar and in no time the cake was in the oven. And while it was baking I started getting excited and I started getting organized, I got my fondant tinted, I made my bow lops, I tinted my fondant black. I got back in the game of things, and I realized how much I had missed decorating cakes. And it made me so happy and not once did I stress out or worry over the cake, I just stayed focused and everything turned out so well. And I had a ton of fun doing it. I can’t explain it! But the feeling I get when I’ve created something out of nothing. It’s just a great feeling, and it makes me so happy! Keisha loved the cake and so did her friends, and that’s all I wanted and all I needed to be satisfied. My goal this year for 2010, is to challenge myself to decorate one cake each month that is fun to make, and something that I am proud of. I hope to do more than one cake each month, but no matter if I do ten or only one. It makes no difference. I just am striving to have one cake, like Keisha’s cake that I decorate, and while I’m decorating it I have a smile on my face and I enjoyed every second of it. So keep an eye out and wish me luck! Now all this talk about cake decorating is making me so excited to see what next month will bring, I know we have Valentines Day coming up and there are two birthdays in my family. My brain is already spinning with clever ideas. Stay tuned to see what next month will bring. As far as January goes, I’ve already voted Keisha’s cake as my cake of the month. Course it didn’t help it was the only contestant did it? haha! But really, I think I would have chosen it anyways. It was such a fun cake to make and I'm a huge lover of love zebra print.

For Halloween this year I decorated my first 3-D cake. I was surprised how easy it was to put the cake together, granted it was a simple rectangle and not very detailed, very easy, I was glad. Everything went really well, until I pulled into my boyfriend [Colton's] driveway to take the cake over to him and his family, it was at that moment when the little guy decided to topple over on its back side. They loved it and thought it was delicious. But, I was irritated and am determined to find a way to keep these cakes from toppling over. Any ideas anyone?

Leah and Travis's Wedding Cake.

Leah and Travis got married over the weekend. You may remember them from the Wedding Shower Cake I did for them a few weeks ago. They had an outdoor wedding/reception at her parents house, despite the cooler weather everything turned out beautiful for them. Leah was so gorgeous, an absolute stunning/beautiful bride.

Amanda and Eric's Wedding Cake.

This cake was for my sister Amanda and my brother-in-law Eric’s wedding. Amanda was the first one in my family to get married. We are all extremely excited and happy for them! She and Eric are so happy together and so far ‘the married life’ seems to be suiting them both perfectly. Their wedding was beautiful, the weather was perfect, her flowers were amazing, the cake was a success (yay!!!!!) and Amanda was an absolute beautiful bride. Her hair, dress, everything turned out gorgeous.

Amanda's good friend Jessica called me while I was decorating the cake and asked if she could come over and help out and I was so happy that she did. She was a huge, huge help! She also arranged the flowers on the cake, I thought she did an amazing job! The cake was iced with Ivory Butter Cream Icing and the ribbon was dark brown velvet, which was perfect for the fall time. I am so happy with how the cake turned out. Thank you so much Jessica for all your help!! :)

Congratulations Amanda and Eric! You are perfectly suited for each other. I admire your relationship and wish you both a lifetime of love and happiness!

Wedding Shower Cake

One who is constantly reminding you of how much he cares and how lucky he is to have YOU... The one who turns to his friends and says, thats her...

This is the kind of love that one of my best friends Leah and her fiancé Travis share with each other. It is truly a beautiful thing to see the two of them together, so happy and so inlove, it makes me smile just thinking of it. They are getting married October 17, 2009 and I am honored to be making their wedding cake. Congratulations Leah and Travis I know you're both so happy, anxious and excited to be getting married next month!

Leah's sister Paulette asked me to do this cake for their wedding shower, and I just wanted to say thank you again Paulette for asking me to do it for you all. It really meant a lot for me to do this for Leah! I iced the cake out of fondant and the detail was done using Butter Cream Icing. On the way to deliver the cake I realized I had left my camera at home, and didn't have time to turn around to get it but luckily Leah came to the rescue with her camera ... an enormous thank you goes to Leah for the photo below!

Sweet Sixteen!

Wahoo! My darlin' sista Andrea turned SIXTEEN over the weekend. She went this morning and got her license. Yippie! :) We celebrated her birthday all weekend long. It was so much fun! You only turn sixteen once, so you have to do it right. There was a pool party with 'just the girls' that's where the cupcakes came into the picture. A sleepover, dinner with the family and Sunday lunch with family is when we devoured this yummy cake. I couldn't decide which pictures I liked most, so there are several here. Let me know what you think of the paisley ...

Shannah's Birthday

My youngest sister Shannah had a birthday this week. It was her 7th. I can't believe how fast she's growing up! It feels like we should still be playing patty-cake patty-cake with her, not teaching her to drive our golfcart. haha! Anyways, Miss Shannah takes her Birthday very seriously. She has been counting down the days and planning her party for weeks. She wanted a horse birthday cake, a pool party and all the little girls in her age group to come. She got everything and more than she asked for... some of her presents were a kite, beads to make friendship braclets with, water ballons, homemade soap (which I wanted very badly for myself!), sidewalk chaulk, Littlest Pet Shops, a Bible with her name engraved on it and a pink fishing rod. Maybe it's just my imagination but I don't remember the toys being near that cool when I was younger. But, hey enough of those silly thoughts, they make me feel old! Shannah had in her head how she wanted the cake. She showed me how she wanted the horses arranged. Notice the two in the corner with their heads together? They are supposed to be telling each other secrets...

Colorful Polka Dots & Bow.

It was my sister Katelyn's birthday this weekend, she turned 18. I can't believe she's already 18. Sometimes it feels like we should still be playing hide-n-seek, riding around on our little bikes, going roller blading, playing in the sprinkler or having those adorable tea parties in our playhouse. Those were the good ol' days! Happy 18th Birthday Katelyn!!! Hope this is one of your best years yet. I used Buttercream for her icing and Fondant for the details. I loved the bright and colorful colors on this cake. Just as I went to snap a picture my battery went dead! Don't you just love how our camera's always seem to find just the right moments to go dead on us?! Luckily, my Mom had her camera near by, and the following photos were taken by my little 10 year old sister Kara. She is very into taking pictures right now and was beyond excited to take these for me. I thought they turned out great! Enjoy!

Leah, one of my very best life long friends asked me if I would help her do a cake for her boyfriend Travis’s 21st birthday. I was hesitant to answer right away, silently I was thinking law no I don’t want to help you! haha! I am only kidding!!!! I was practically jumpin' from the excitement of getting to help her with the cake! With me having seven sisters, it seems I rarely get a chance to decorate much for guys. So I was extremely extremely extremely excited to help her do the cake. Travis is a big time four-wheeler rider, he’s always rode them for as long as I can remember and has been racing them for quite some years. So when Leah said she wanted to do him a four-wheeler cake, I instantly agreed, it was just perfect for him! Leah and I both had so much fun decorating this cake, I'm thinking of hiring her to help me out on all my cakes, it was a ton of fun having someone there to talk and laugh with while decorating! The only hard thing about it was keeping the secret from Travis, since she wanted to surprise him with it, and she managed to do so! Great job Leah and thanks a bunch for asking me to help you with this cake! It was a ton of fun!

Hello everyone! I'm finally posting a new cake on here, I know y'all probably wondered where I disappeared too. Truth is I've been a very busy girl lately, we've had all sorts of exciting changes beginning to take place at our house, my oldest sister Amanda recently got herself engaged and is getting married in the fall (we are all so excited, she is the first one of us to get married!) my bro. Chad (the one who I did the fishing cake for back in May) just told us he's moving out. Although we are going to miss him like crazy, we all couldn't be more happy for him.. he is moving into our Paw Paw's house. I know Paw Paw would be so proud if he was still with us. My youngest sister Shannah just got glasses, they are the most adorable little pink glasses ever. All twelve of us came to an agreement that those precious glasses just complete her. (it must be very true for all twelve of us to agree on something) haha! I'm only kiddin' we are not that bad! And I of course never one to be left out in all this excitement, have been redecorating my room, well, mainly just repainting my bedroom furniture. What a job this has been! After 2 trips to Benjamin Moore's paint store, 2 coats of black paint, and more sanding than I ever care to repeat again in my life. I have gorgeous black antique furniture and I love it, it turned out exactly how I pictured! It was worth every minute of the hard work, minus the blisters. haha! I could have done without those pesky things! So with all that's been going on at our house from all eight, well nine girls (including our Mom) browsing thru wedding magazines, to us all teasing Chad about how we are going to be hittin' him up every Fri. night for BIG sleepovers. and any small chance I get I've been outside enjoying the beautiful weather that we've been having, summertime has always been my favorite season! I've not had allot of spare time to do much cake decorating, but I did do this Hello Kitty Cake for Diane, a lady who works with me, it was her daughter Robin's birthday. It is a red velvet cake with cream cheese icing, how I was dangerously tempted to slice into this yummy thing while I was decorating it. Red Velvet is my all time favorite!! Happy 19th Birthday Robin, I hope you had a wonderful Birthday!

With Easter coming up I plan to decorate something out of this new Wilton Brownie Fun book that my sisters gave me for my birthday. I haven't yet decorated with brownies before, so I'm anxious to see how they'll turn out...

The class that I am in the middle of taking right now, is the Tiered Cake and Fondant Class which teaches us how to do more detailed things with Fondant, such as making a bow. It just so happened that Tuesday night we made the gift package cakes during our class and Wednesday it was my Mom's birthday, so this was Mom's birthday cake...

I did this gingerbread house for Christmas of '08. Every year I look forward to Christmas, I love the Christmas season. This gingerbread house was something I did just for the fun of it ... and, something for me to practice working with the Royal Icing (those of you who have ever dealt with Royal Icing would understand the reason for me wanting to practice using it) haha! It can be very very tricky to work with. But, here it is (all of the details are out of Royal Icing, I ended up not using any candy)
